Around town: Blaze Pizza
Have you been to Blaze Pizza? It’s a fast-casual pizza place where you pick your own toppings, assembly-line style (think Chipotle). Then your pizza goes into a super hot oven and comes out ready to eat in about three minutes. It’s such a great concept, especially for people with kids. But also for people who just want to grab a quick bite and don’t want a slice that’s been sitting under a warmer for 4 hours.
Lucky for me, Blaze Pizza outlets and other pizza places of the same concept seem to be cropping up all over the place. There are now about 15 Blaze’s in the Chicagoland area. We stopped by the one closest to us in Niles awhile back. The kids got pepperoni, sausage and sliced grape tomatoes. And I ordered one with basil, olives and mushrooms topped with fresh arugula.
It’s not fancy. And it’s not the best pizza you’ve ever had in your life. But its pretty good. And it’s fun for the kids to pick out their own toppings. More importantly, it offers a very low stress restaurant experience. Which can be hard to find, especially with four kids under five.
Where do you like to go out to eat with kids? What are your kids’ favorite restaurants? We recently went to Old Irving Brewing. The kids loved it and keep asking to go back. Which is fine by me. Since I thought it was pretty great too. This weekend we are checking out Smylie Brothers in Evanston. Lately, eating out can be either fun or disasterous. So, fingers crossed.
