Standing Desks

I have a standing desk at the office and I LOVE it. I started using it right after coming back to work from my last maternity leave. It gave me something small to be excited about at the office and helped me stay productive despite the lack of sleep. It’s hard to fall asleep at your desk when you are standing.  Even though it is so easy to lower the desk to chair height (in less than 5 seconds), I find that I never do. I love working while standing.  In fact I stand a lot more than I used to in other situations as well. I will stand at the counter and read (i.e. drink wine) at home instead of plopping down on the couch. Which has been great for increasing my productivity.  Because, once I sit down, well, you know how that goes.

Most standing workstations are pretty expensive (around $400).  But I think it was a small price to pay for the extra energy I feel like I have throughout the day.  Although, I have to admit that I might feel differently if I didn’t spend so much time at my desk. As such a huge fan of my standing desk, you can imagine my surprise when a friend told me that several standing workstations were provided in his office and no one chose to use them.  He didn’t know where they ended up but after a few months they were gone.  Have you tried a standing desk?
